King Silversonic Cornet

This instrument symbolises my trad jazz mid life crisis. I have become somewhat obsessed with Bix Beiderbecke, Louis Armstrong and Red Nichols so I decided to "invest" in a long model cornet. This one was made by H N White and has a solid silver bell. It blows very well and has the classic long model cornet sound when played on a deep mouthpiece like the Bach 6. it allows for easy articualtion but a nice small sound for small group playing.

I sent it away to have it overhauled:

  • Amado water keys needed replaced as they are so badly put on (I stuck to Amados and not going back to the originals).
  • Receiver was worn and looks like a bodged replacement for the older larger size (like Olds). It does not hold the mouthpiece correctly so I I had a replacement fitted.
  • Trigger was inefectual, so I had the mechanism adjusted.
  • A few tiny dents were removed
  • Whole instrument was silver plated to clean it up and preserve it once the work was done.
