Cornet to Flugel Horn Mouthpiece Adapter

The difference between Cornet and Flugel mouthpieces is often negligible. Both are funnel shaped but have different shanks, so sometimes it would be useful to have a way of fitting a cornet mouthpiece to a flugel horn. This is especially the case with the Monette Flumpet cup cornet mouthpieces which make great flugel mouthpieces too. They cost a lot of money so having two in different fittings is a lot of expense.

So, years ago I took a cornet to trumpet mouthpiece adapter and turned it down so it was the same taper as a flugel mouthpiece shank.

Here is the comparison between the finished adapter and a flugel mouthpiece shank:

And here is the finished article in use with a Monette 1-5 FL cornet mouthpiece:

Now I am sure its not the right thing to do, but it does work and the flugel sounds great.
