Doctors and the closed shop

My Dad worked in the health service all his working life and always says that Doctors are a totally closed shop who will protect each other no matter how obvious an error has been.

This story is an example:

Regardless of whether there has been any negligence, the doctors involved ar ebehaving in a way which seems more to do with self preservation that getting to the truth and actually putting right any wrong.
